Dolomite is a carbonate rock with high calcium and magnesium content. It is mainly composed of dolomite, containing small amounts of calcite, clay minerals, flint, magnesite, and sometimes gypsum, lapis lazuli, barite, pyrite, and organic matter. The color of dolomite is generally gray white, similar in appearance to limestone. Transition type ores can be classified between limestone and dolomite based on the different proportions of calcite and dolomite. Commonly referred to as dolomite, it refers to relatively pure dolomite with a calcite content of less than 5%.
In theory, when dolomite is heated to 700-900 ℃, it decomposes into a mixture of carbon dioxide, calcium oxide, and magnesium oxide, called caustic magnesium dolomite, which easily reacts with water. When dolomite is calcined at 1500 ℃, magnesium oxide becomes periclase, calcium oxide transforms into crystalline a-CaO, with a dense structure, strong water resistance, and a fire resistance of up to 2300 ℃. Dolomite is widely used in metallurgy, building materials, ceramics, glass, chemical industry, agriculture, environmental protection and other fields.
